Summer Events for DVEA - 2016

This summer has been a busy summer for the DVEA Executive Committee.

In June, DVEA's President Sean Hurley and 2nd VP Michelle Cardenas flew to Portland, Orgeon to speak with the Washignton Educators Association about being an active oranization in a Right to Work state like Texas. Upon their return they joined DVEA Tresurer Jen Pascua and Secretary Shea Smith at the TSTA Organizing Institute in Austin, TX.  Newly elected Treasurer Jen Pascua attended and graduated from TSTA's Emerging Leaders program that was held the same week as the Organizing Institute.  DVEA's leader worked hard with others from around the state and learned more about organizing, member benefits, and how to be an effective local.

DVISD approves Due Process for hourly employees

On July 21, 2015, the Del Valle ISD Board of Trustees voted unanimously in favor of due process for Education Support Professionals. DVEA had campaigned for several months on the issue. Thanks to all those who signed our petition and attended school board meetings in support of our campaign. A special thanks to Del Valle ISD administration and school board for their willingness to work with DVEA on this important issue. Del Valle ISD becomes the third district in Texas, after Fort Worth and Austin, to put in board policy due process language for at-will employees. DVEA hopes that other local TSTA associations  will  be inspired to mount due process campaigns and find the approved policy language a useful model when going forward with due process campaigns.
